Couto Chronicles – Lorick Family

What started as a chance encounter at a gas station and a little bit of car trouble turned into pivotal moments in the Lorick family’s lives. Call it fate. Call it luck. Call it what you will. What we know is that unbreakable bonds formed between the Loricks and Couto Homes, and we are so happy to call them homeowners and friends.

The Lorick Family closed on their Couto Home in the Spring of 2019. Their home has easily been one of our most popular homes featured on our social media accounts, and we’ve had several homeowners want to achieve similar looks in their homes. The Lorick home building journey was enjoyable for the family, as well as our team.

The journey started before it really even began by a chance encounter in a gas station. Mr. Lorick ran into our Director of Construction, Joey, and they struck up a conversation. The two hit it off, and Mr. Lorick said that he left there thinking that anybody with that much passion for his job must be a part of something really great. But the family wasn’t in the market for a home at that point in time. In fact, they had moved here for what they thought would be temporary, for work. It was during the search for their “temporary” home that the Loricks fell in love with the neighborhood, Bella Ranch. On the search, Mr. Lorick backed over a culvert in his rental car and got stuck. It was then that a neighbor rushed to him and said he’d grab his truck and get him out of there in no time. Being Texas in July, another sweet neighbor quickly appeared and insisted that Mrs. Lorick and their little girls wait in her air conditioned car. They knew right then that Bella Ranch was the neighborhood for them. As they tell it, the friendliness of the neighbors sold them on a house before ever finding one. They had never been treated so kindly in a neighborhood by complete strangers before.

Shortly after, they found a rental property and settled in for their “temporary” Texas stay. But after going through one Texas Winter, in comparison to the midwest Winters they had been accustomed to, they decided Texas would be their permanent home. With their family growing, and the knowledge that this stay wouldn’t be temporary after all, Mr. Lorick remembered Joey. He looked up several different builders, but it was his interaction with Joey, and the passion for which he spoke of Couto Homes, that made him reach out.

They decided that the Executive Series Marion floor plan was the right one for them, and they were assigned a Home Specialist, Design Specialist, and Project Manager. Together, the Couto team and the Lorick family designed their dream home. Complete with the family’s favorite room, the media room with twilight ceiling lights, the home has meaningful touches throughout. Mr. and Mrs. Lorick met at Eastern Illinois University, and it was important to them to incorporate the university colors, blue and gray, in different areas. The combination of these colors are what catch the eye of so many of our social media followers. In fact, we’ve had several homeowners use the exact paint because it turned out so beautifully in the Loricks’ home.

During the building process, every Sunday the family would go to the home and pray over it. This became such a meaningful family tradition that now that they’ve been in their home for two years, they continue to pray for their home, their neighbors, and their neighborhood every Sunday as a family. They love their home and Bella Ranch, and there isn’t anything they’d change if they could do it over again.

So yes, call it luck. Call it fate. Call it what you will. What we know, and what the Lorick family knows, is that  the gas station encounter and the car trouble turned into something wonderful- a beautiful home, beautiful friendships, and beautiful roots planted within the Bella Ranch community.
